I'm about 2 chapters into the second part of Act 2, which isn't a lot of progress but we're traveling until the new year right now, and I have to fit the writing in when I can. I knew it would be tough. Add to that my 7-month-old getting croup and keeping me up at night for the better part of the week, I'm just going to let this slight dip in production slide and hope that next week is better.
The good news is that I received mostly positive feedback from my mentor on the first half of Act 2! I'm feeling really good about the direction this new version is going, so I'll just keep at it.
One thing I'm finding in this revision is that I like pantsing while I'm in-scene. I have an idea of the shape and main beats for each scene, but I don't quite know how the scene will actually turn out. Every time I'm mid-scene I reach this point where I see what how to get to the end of it. I'm currently working on a scene where a character does something that will lead to where I want the scene to end. This has taught me that while I'm very much a plotter, I still need the occasional joy of discovery as I write.
Here's to a productive Christmas week, where I'll mostly be staying put and will have more time to peck away at this thing. Happy holidays to you all!
